Assessment Options

Our Assessment Options Overview

Screening

The Screening identifies key areas requiring further exploration and support. A Screening is usually used for very young children and those children who do not have the cognitive function to undergo an assessment with many complexities in it. Instead it utilises clinical observations using Sensory Integration methodologies as well as more robust therapist/parent interactions in order to extract information. The Screening takes about 90 minutes on average.

This Screening comes with a report and a feedback session.

School Incorporated Assessments

It is sometimes useful to observe your child at school, nursery or college to gain further insight into the difficulties they are experiencing. In these instances we will perform an assessment at the clinic and then on a separate day perform classroom and playground observations at school. Additionally the time spent at school will also be spent gathering information from the school in terms of their interactions with your child and questions around resources and support.

Standard Assessment

Our Standard Assessment is a 90 minute – 2 hour process with one of our Paediatric Occupational and Sensory therapists. This assessment takes place at the clinic (as we have all the necessary equipment there). We will asses your child using a variety of different assessment tools as appropriate. This will generally involve assessment of your child whilst moving, performing desk top tasks and through conversation and clinical observation in the sensory integration room. Assessments used could include the Movement ABC, Beery VMI visual perceptual test, REAL (assessment of daily living skills), DASH handwriting test and others according to the child’s difficulties.

This assessment comes with a comprehensive report and a feedback session.

EHCP Assessments

We are pleased to say that we have done many successful EHCP OT assessments for parents seeking to apply for an Education and Health Plan for their children. As with a School Incorporated Assessment, we will do both an assessment of needs and classroom and playground observations. In this instance our assessments and report will be in line with the standards and protocols required for an EHCP application.
