Our Assessment Options Overview

Clinic Based Assessments

Our assessments are done one to one with our Paediatric Occupational and Sensory therapists. The assessments takes place at the clinic (as we have all the necessary equipment there). Assessments take up to 2 hrs to do.

Clinical observations using the Ayres SI model are utilised during the assessment. We will also asses your child using a variety of different assessment tools as appropriate and according to the child’s abilities. These will generally involve assessment of your child whilst moving, performing desk top tasks and through conversation and clinical observation in the sensory integration room. Assessments tools used could include the Movement ABC, Beery VMI visual perceptual test, REAL (assessment of daily living skills), DASH handwriting test and others according to the child’s difficulties.

At Kids in Sync South West, we also use, where applicable, the EASI assessment to better understand how your child processes the world around them. Designed for children aged 3 to 12, this engaging, play-based assessment provides deep insight into sensory processing, coordination, motor planning, and emotional regulation

Whether your child struggles with attention, movement, anxiety, or everyday tasks, the EASI helps uncover the why behind the challenges—and shows us how best to support them.

School Incorporated Assessments

It is sometimes useful to observe your child at school, nursery or college to gain further insight into the difficulties they are experiencing. In these instances we will perform an assessment at the clinic and then on a separate day perform classroom and playground observations at school. Additionally the time spent at school will also be spent gathering information from the school in terms of their interactions with your child and questions around resources and support.

EHCP Assessments

We are pleased to say that we have done many successful EHCP OT assessments for parents seeking to apply for an Education and Health Plan for their children. As with a School Incorporated Assessment, we will do both an assessment of needs and classroom and playground observations. In this instance our assessments and report will be in line with the standards and protocols required for an EHCP application.
